ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) – The Carter County Healthy Living Coalition and TSET Healthy Living program hosted the 1st Annual Healthy Living Extravaganza at the Ardmore Convention Center.

“It’s important that we let people know it is easier to make healthy choices when your environment encourages those healthy choices,” said TSET Healthy Living Program Coordinator Cynthia Romine. “Our program is working on making environmental changes in Carter County and here we’re talking about those changes today, and just spreading the word about how healthy choices can be made.”

TSET Healthy Living Program and Carter County Healthy Living Coalition works to prevent and reduce cancer and cardiovascular disease rates in the area by improving nutrition and physical activity. 

The event was open to all ages offering: guest speakers, vendors, demonstrations, games, crafts, raffle prizes and much more.

“Today’s event is awesome,” said event attendee Renita Dotson. “There’s a lot of different booths in there with a lot of different information, very important information. So I said I’ve got to come out and bring my grand-kids to get this information.

The Carter County Substance Abuse Prevention Committee (CCSAPC) also teamed up Ardmore PD and Lone Grove PD to offer a prescription drug take back event for unwanted, unused or expired medication.

“If we get medication out of the home that could lead to a child actually taking medication, having an overdose, ” said Community Coordinator for CCSAPC Lisa Jackson. “Or protecting the homeowner from someone that may burglarize their home.

Overall, the event featured a total of 13 local and state vendors all offering various resources.
